History
142: Bill Ferris's class on
Southern Music at UNC Chapel Hill, September 8, 2005
We
were honored to be the guests of
Professor Bill Ferris for a class on old time music in his course on
Southern Music
(History 142) at the University of North Carolina. Unbelievably, seven
of us made it from Raleigh with time to spare for
the 8 AM class. In class, we shared our thoughts and experiences with
the students and played a couple of tunes. Afterwards we had a great
tour of the music resources in the Southern Folklife Collection at
Wilson Library with curator Steve Weiss. At noon we played for an hour
on the terrace behind Graham Memorial. Four of us are UNC alums,
so it really meant a lot to us.
We're also featured with photos on the Thursdays
on the Terrace page of the website of the Johnston Center for
Undergraduate Excellence.
