Here are a few tunes from typical sessions, played with the recorder going on in the background. Don't expect studio quality or balance here -- there are rough starts and bumps throughout. But maybe they capture a little of the energy and texture  -- and fun.

Johnny Don't Get Drunk. A tune with a moral. Charley provides the introduction. We learned it from Tim Currin. Recorded 10-4-07.

In-A-Gadda-Da-Chicken (Cluck Old Hen).  You figure it out. Oaklana Plantation 11/07.

Chinquapin.  A frequent warm-up tune for us, from the playing of Dunk Preddy of Granville County, N.C.

Pig Ankle Rag.  From the Highwoods String Band via Charley.

Fish in the Millpond. Will be better when we can alternate with the lower octave.  From an old recording by Gaither Carlton, Doc Watson's father-in-law.

Avalon Quickstep. Learned from Janet Furman of Chapel Hill. We really don't play this much, but happened to play it this session, and it didn't sound too bad, so here it is. We hope the folks at Toyota like it.

Bonaparte's Retreat.  An old standard. We include the hoochie-coochie part.

Belles of Lexington. This one is pretty hard. From a 1940s recording by Emmett Lunday of Galax, VA.

Stump Blow.  Charley wrote this great tune. This is a fragment that starts in the middle of the tune, but you'll pick it up.

Rockingham Cindy.  Another old standard in these parts.

June Apple.  This version from Becky.

Pretty Little Dog.  A model tune from the Fuzzy Mountain String Band. 35 years after they made their records, we still sit around and play a lot of their tunes. Can't remember their source for this.
